Alls Well that Ends Well: Carlos Gets his Job Back

Carlos Gonzalez spent the past months dealing with the possibility of being fired from the Perth Amboy Fire
Department while serving his country as a US Marine in Iraq. He now can put that fear to rest.
The Perth Amboy City Council approved a memorandum to keep the jobs of Carlos Gonzalez and eleven
other firefighters. The memorandum ended a three month struggle for the firefighters, who were set to be
laid off due to budget cuts.
Over those months, the G.I. GO fund rallied with the Gonzalez’s family and the other firefighters to save his
job. Once the deal was announced, G.I. GO President Jack Fanous expressed his relief.
“The past months have been truly stressful,” said Fanous. “We worked really hard in trying to make sure
that Carlos, who sacrificed everything to fight in Iraq, would not be fired. I am grateful that Carlos’s job is
safe, and now we can focus on ensuring that no veteran will have to experience the same fear Carlos did.”
